HADR – 2019 The Revenue and Disaster Management department, along with the Indian Navy and National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Airforce, and various Government Authorities, jointly organized the Annual Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief Exercise 2019, in all coastal districts of Tamil Nadu (except Kanchipuram District), on the theme of ‘Cyclone and Urban Flooding’ from August 2019 2nd August to 4th August 2019.
First day (2-8-19): The Inauguration was at Chennai Kalavanar Arangam, which was attended by the Tri-force (Navy – Airforce – Army) along with various Tamil Nadu Government Department. In which we the “Sai Disaster Response Guard” (DRG) also a special invitee, which was followed by the Seminar.
In the Seminar Dr. Sathya Gopalan IAS, Commissioner Revenue and Administration, addressed that Sathya Sai Disaster Management Team who had trained the NDRF, (yes true). The NDRF team had carried our cycle ambulance concept for their module.
In the noon section a table top discussion (TTD) with all the line department were two seats allotted to us, in which a mock drill scenario was briefed. All were advised to share their way of participation in the second day TTD.
Second day 03-08-19 : The Exhibition at Island ground, Chennai were organized in which a stall was arranged for Sai DRG. In that Tri-force, TNSDMA, TN Police, Health, Fire & Rescue, Communication, and various other departments had their stall. We the Sai DM Team displayed few of our improvised methods of rescue and other services. Before lunch all these team were invited for the Skill Demo at Chennai Port.
During second section table top excise in which we briefed about our services right from Tsunami till now, which made the entire department proud of the Sai team Services.
Day 3 : 4th August 2019: Mock drill at 12 Costal Districts scheduled in between 8 am to 1.30 pm and the happenings were captured at the Chennai Disaster Management Control Room.
With the available resources we were able to join, lead, witness in the Districts of Thiruvallur, Chennai, Cuddalore, Tanjavur, Thoothukudi. In these Districts our team were able to support for the mock drills, and shared the rescue methods. We are proud that the District Presidents of Thoothukudi and Thanjavur were personally & actively participated and made the drill more success.
Debrief at Chennai Naval Officer MESS: All the Line Departments, including Sai DRG were invited for the final program. Their Dr. Jagannathan IAS, Director, TN Disaster Management , briefed and shown the pictures of the mock drills which happened at 12 Costal Districts. In which the live action photos of Sai teams were also shown. All these were closely watched by the invited Foreign delegates who all are their Country Safety / Disaster Management Heads. They were from Australia, Philippines, Malaysia, China and many others. They said ” India is having the capabilities to handle the unforeseen situation“. For which we the Sai Team is also a part.
